M'lore: FMMC Organizes South India-level CME Programme

Mangalore, Sep 22: On the occasion of World Heart day, the department of medicine and allied medical specialities of Father Muller Medical College held a south India-level Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme, ‘Medicine Update-2008’ on September 21 and 22.

The inaugural function of the programme was held on Saturday September 20. The entire medical college assembled to witness the inaugural ceremony. J Krishna Palemar, minister for ecology, environment, ports and inland water transport, was the chief guest. He urged the young doctors to keep themselves abreast of all the latest advances in medical science, so as to excel in their respective fields. Dr S Ramananda Shetty, vice-chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore inaugurated the CME. Fr Stany Tauro, administrator, Father Muller Hospital, Fr Denis D’Sa administrator, Father Muller Medical College and College of nursing and Dr Sanjeev Rai, dean, Father Muller Medical college were the other dignitaries present on the occasion.

The two-day CME witnessed the presence and participation of more than 200 post-graduates and delegates from Karnataka and other neighboring states. Renowned doctors from various super-specialities conducted sessions on a wide array of topics like approach to congenital heart disease, hypertension in pregnancy, recognition and management of arrhythmias, diuretics in clinical practice, approach to epilepsy and management of snake bite etc. During the CME, a rich academic repast was arranged, that included clinical case discussions, practical problem solving and speeches by stalwarts in the field.

The CME aims at helping the medical faculty to maintain competence and learn about the latest developments in the field of medicine. It also formed a forum for interaction of the post-graduate medicine students with experienced doctors and examiners.

The hospital plans to make the CME an annual event, proposed to be conducted in the third week of September every year. The college said, it anticipates that many budding physicians and practitioners will avail of this opportunity, towards enhancing their clinical skills.
