Bangalore, Sep 25: If the state government does not withdraw its order making speed governors mandatory on all commercial vehicles, an indefinite strike will begin from the night of Tuesday September 30, said B Chenna Reddy, president, Karnataka state truck owners’ association, in a press conference on Tuesday September 23. 
 
Reddy urged the state government to withhold the order till a similar rule comes into effect across the nation. The state administration has made it clear that vehicles that violate the rule will not be allowed to ply on roads from Wednesday October 1. 
 
The installation of the speed governors would mean that they will not be allowed to speed beyond 80 kms.  The truck owners contend that as the neighbouring states have enacted no such transport laws related to speed governors, it will be difficult for Karnataka to implement the orders.

The truck owners are likely to be affected as they will have to bear additional overheads on speed governors in their vehicles. Moreover, as speed governors will have to be  installed in all transport vehicles from the neighbouring states plying in Karnataka, it will  dissuade cargo trucks from plying goods into the state, say the truck owners.
