Chikkamagaluru, Jun 26: The district police arrested a person named Fayaz from Narasimharajapura in the district on the night of Sunday June 24. He was taken into custody and produced in court whereupon he was remanded to judicial custody for two weeks.
It is said that Fayaz had posted a picture in Facebook in which Lord Anjaneya, a prominent deity on whom a large section of Hindus repose faith in, is depicted as prostrating before Tipu Sultan.
On Sunday, Fayaz is said to have uploaded an edited picture of Lord Anjaneya bowing and touching the feet of Tipu Sultan. The photo had been widely circulated through WhatsApp within minutes. A number of Hindu organizations had come together to hold a protest in front of the police station here, seeking arrest of the culprit.
