Mangaluru, Jun 27: Department of Commerce, St Aloysius College organized a talk on ‘Drug Abuse and its Measures’ on Tuesday, June 26 at Eric Mathais Hall. The dignitaries for the day were Dr Mahabalesh Shetty, HOD, department of Forensic Science, K S Hegde Medical Academy, Derlakatte and forensic expert for Mangaluru police, Udaya Nayak, assistant commissioner of Police, Central Division, Pradeep sub-inspector, North police station, Dr Bhaskar and Ganesh, social activist.
The session began with a brief introduction about drug trafficking in Mangaluru by Udaya Nayak. He explained to the students about the drug trafficking taking place in surroundings. He requested the students to prevent the usage of narcotic drug and he informed the students about various helplines.
The chief guest for the day Dr Mahabalesh Shetty gave detailed information about various types of drugs and its effect on human health. He also explained the various reasons as to why a person gets involved into drugs and later becomes an addict. Towards the end of the session the students were advised about the usage of drugs and its effects and the dais was open to all questions.
