Alkmaar striker Weghorst joins Wolfsburg

Berlin, Jun 27 (IANS): vfL Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Dutch striker Wout Weghorst from AZ Alkmaar on a four-year deal.

"Wout Weghorst has consistently performed well at Alkmaar and continually developed. With his style of play and mentality he should fit well in the Bundesliga," Wolfsburg's sporting director Joerg Schmadtke said on Tuesday, reports Xinhua news agency.

Weghost played two years for Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar and marked 31 goals in overall 60 appearances. His prolific performances earned him a place in the Netherland's national team where he made his debut against England in March 2018.

"My time in Alkmaar was very nice but it was clear that I would like to take the next step in my career. Now I am looking forward to a new challenge. I am sure the transfer into the Bundesliga is the right decision for my further development," Weghorst, 25, told the club's official homepage.
