Beware! Filming people without permission in Dubai to attract fine of Dh 500,000

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai

Dubai, Jul 1: If one films or takes pictures of another person without permission in the UAE, one may end up paying a penalty between Dh 150,000 and Dh 500,000 and also face a jail term of one year.

A video of a man who was crying at a Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) customer care centre had recently gone viral. The person who filmed the footage and uploaded it has been arrested by the Dubai police.

In a series of tweets, the RTA clarified that the man in the video clip crying at the customer care centre was not an employee of Cars Taxi, a private franchise, and did not have any outstanding fines registered in his name.

"The man was at the headquarters to inquire about the Dh20,000 in fines against his relative who worked as a driver at the Cars Taxi franchise. An investigation is underway to determine the reasons for the driver’s fines," said the RTA.

"We would also like to emphasise that the relevant authorities have been notified to take legal action against the person who filmed and published the video," they said.

Warning residents not to take photos and videos of other people without first requesting their permission, the Dubai police on its Facebook official page has informed UAE citizens that according to Federal Decree Law No. 5 of 2012 of the Cybercrime Law, residents who breach the privacy of others can face a hefty fine between Dh 150,000 and Dh 500,000, in addition to at least one year in jail.

Professor Chris.....without knowing the subject you are giving lecture. Dubai got very good rules. If they make any mistakes in driving or daily life they will punish them with heavy fines of jail so here crime rates are very less. If anyone caught in drug case they will put them inside for year or they may capital punishment so that people are very careful. they already published that no one has to dry their cloth on galleries and if caught they will fine them about indian rupees 10000/- or more and their argument is it is destroying cities beauty. In India if you see any house gallery you can easily make out how many people are leaving in that apartment , how many men and how many ladies.... all their garments including undergarments are on show for others. So please they are not punishing or giving fine for taking money from the public but just to behave correctly. So please comment without knowing anything.

    An excellent law/rule in UAE.

Personal privacy is very important to people. But others have no respect for such privacy.

Hopefully the Indian lawmakers wake up to the importance of people's privacy.

Its not only because of personal privacy but it will spoil Dubai image...... Dubai police is one of the best and they will penalise you only if you commit mistake.... Here man is telling that RTA fined the person and he was crying for his fine..... He committed mistakes and RTA fines him.

Whatever money collected by way of fines and penalties will be used for development and facilities for the public unlike in India all tax money is going to the pockets of politicians and baabus. Just look at the conditions of our roads. We pay road tax but our roads are death roads. Look at the condition of our trains and we dream of bullet trains. As long as selfish politicians exist in India, we cannot expect anything good for Indian public in India.

Stop cribbing all the time. Become and politician and change it yourself. Comments are the easiest way to blame others for everything. In India we crib about bad roads and when the govt makes 4 lane roads we drive in the wrong direction. They build public toilets we piss on the walls from outside. They make democracy we vote only on caste and religion.
