Bengaluru, Jul 7: A heroic feat of a Bengaluru police constable not only earns him a cash reward but also a honeymoon package in Kerala’s backwaters.

KE Venkatesh, who is a police constable at Bellandur police station was patrolling Sarjapur main road on his Cheetah bike, when he heard a man shout ‘Kalla Kalla’ (thief) around 2.45 am on July 5. Venkatesh who was 200 metres away from the spot saw three men on two motor bikes speeding away with the mobile phone of a man identified as Hanumanth who works for KFC.

The 30-year-old constable chased the thieves for four kilometres and managed to ram his bike to one of the culprit’s bike, throwing the rider on the ground. He managed to catch hold of one of the accused identified as Arun Dayal (20) while the other two thieves managed to escape. Though he sustained injures, he did not let go of Arun and summoned a Hoysala van for help. The search is currently on to nab the other two.

Impressed by his heroism, DCP (Whitefield) Abdul Ahad rewarded the constable with Rs 10,000. He then came to know that Venkatesh was engaged recently and is all set to tie the knot on November 2. The department then decided to sponsor the cop’s honeymoon trip and gifted him a three-night, four day package worth Rs 25,000 to Kerala.

In June, the DCP (West) had gifted constable Chandrakumar C, a motor bike, cash and one-month leave after he nabbed a chain-snatcher.

“The encouragement for our seniors motivates us to perform better,” Venkatesh told media.

Venkatesh joined the police force in 2007 as a constable with HAL police station. He was transferred to Tilaknagar in 2012 and Bellandur in 2017.
