Bengaluru, Jul 26: Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said that the Act with regards to the prohibition of violence against doctors and medicare service personnel will be strengthened further.

He was speaking after inaugurating the new Cardiac-MRI department in Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in the city. Continuing his address, Kumaraswamy said, "An Act was formed to consider the attack on doctors as a non-bailable offense. However, it has come to light that this Act, which was implemented in 2007, is not effective. This will be made more stringent and implemented,”

"The present Act was formed 12-years-ago when I was the chief minister considering the incidents wherein the relatives of the deceased patient attacked the doctors even after the deceased person was given suitable medical care,” he added.

"Residents of rural areas also should get good medical care. People who have become doctors on the free medical seat of the government must compulsorily serve in rural areas. Necessary action will be taken to implement this" he said.

The chief minister also said that a meeting of all the district medical officers (DMO) is slated in the first week of August to discuss the issues with regards to the facilities and staff availability in government hospitals.
