Bengaluru, Jul 28: The meeting of the coordination committee of the coalition government in the state will meet during the first week of August. This meeting is likely to take important decisions over ministry expansion and appointments to corporations and boards.
The committee had been formed with the clear intention of helping in smooth administration. The next week's meeting is also expected to discuss about the recent political development and electoral understanding between the coalition-partners for the Lok Sabha election. The issuance of contradictory statements targeting Congress legislators being issued by certain former MLAs and the adverse signals such statements emanate also will be discussed at the meeting, it is gathered.
On both sides, there are leaders who are opposed to the idea of extending the current understanding for next year's Lok Sabha election. Some among them are publicly airing their views. Many in the government feel that these things, if allowed to continue, might create hurdles in sticking to the coalition principles. Therefore, many within the government feel that strict instructions should be given to the party leaders against issuing statements like these to the media, and also to take decision on electoral understanding for Lok Sabha election at the earliest. Issues like farm loan waiver which had put the government in a fix recently, free bus passes to students, demand for separate north Karnataka state etc may be discussed at the said meeting.
Chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy's statement that people of north Karnataka do not have moral ground to demand facilities from the government as they had not voted for JD(S), it is being felt, has dented the image of the government. Discussions about the measures to be taken to assuage the feeling of hurt it has created will also be held, sources say.
