Udupi, Jul 29: The case pertaining to the mysterious death of Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math here has been acquiring fresh twists and turns with each passing day. It has now transpired that on June 24 this year, Shiroor Swamiji had written to the district superintendent of police (SP) here, about the differences of opinion he had with heads of other Maths here. Shiroor Swamiji suddenly breathed his last on July 19 after falling sick.

The letter clearly speaks about the differences over handing back the idols of the presiding deity of Shiroor Math. In the letter, the Swamiji has said that if anything untoward happens henceforth, heads of other Maths would have to entirely take the blame.

"On account of my ill health, I had arranged for performing daily puja to the idol of my Math at Sri Krishna Math, after sending the idol of the presiding deity through the junior Swamiji of Adamaru Math. I have now fully recovered from sickness. But the Swamijis of Maths have not been giving back the idols which rightfully belong to my Math," he said in the letter.

Through the letter, the Swamiji also threatened to go on fast unto death till the idols are given to him back. If any unfortunate incident happens on account of non-consumption of food, the heads of other Maths should be held entirely responsible, he added in the letter.

The letter dated June 24 was received by the office of the SP on July 25 as per reports.

SP on Saturday told the media that the letter was received by post ‘a month back and reply was given to approach court as it comes under civil issue with respect to God Vittal,’
