Bengaluru, Jul 29: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the killing of veteran journalist, Gauri Lankesh, has stumbled upon the information that the plan to kill her had been hatched in a house owned by a police officer. The plan took shape in the residence of Suresh Kumar (36), a civil contractor from Tumakuru, who was arrested from Kunigal. The house hired by Suresh Kumar was owned by a police officer, it is gathered.
The SIT has come to know that the killers of Gauri had stayed in a rented home at Kadabagere Cross near Magadi Road here. They had planned to kill Gauri during their stay there. After planning the murder at this house which was rented out by the policeman, the gang members had escaped before anyone could grow suspicious about them. During their stay there, they reportedly utilized the services of Suresh, in whose name the residence was hired, and drew help from Amol Kale and others, it is said.
The police officer concerned had entrusted the responsibility of looking after his house to a relative. As such he was unaware of who were staying in his home. The relative of the police officer had rented out the premises without looking into the antecedents of the concerned. After it came to be known that his house had been hired by Gauri's killers, the officer is in a soup. It is said that arrested accused, Suresh Kumar and Mohan Nayak, were in constant contact with Amol Kale Nihan alias Dada and others when living in this house.,
Suresh was already taken to Kunigal and Mangaluru by the police for pooling evidences. It is said that Suresh Kumar played an important role in destroying evidence in his case.
