Kundapur, Aug 4: A woman hailing from Hallimane, Alooru in Kundapur was mauled by a tiger while she had gone to graze cattle on Saturday afternoon, August 4.

Shantha Shetty (55) and husband Manju Shetty had gone to their fields around 11 am to graze cattle. As the fence near their fields was broken, Manju asked Shantha to get rope from their house to fix the fence. As Shantha was returning after getting the rope, she was mauled by the tiger. She screamed loudly and fell to the ground.

“The tiger which got scared by the screams, left Shantha and fled inside the forest,” said Manju Shetty.

Shantha suffered injuries on her hands and back and has admitted to Kundapur private hospital.

Kundapur forest department staff, under the leadership of forest official Sharath, conducted an inspection. A cage has been kept to catch the tiger. Other residents of the area have turned anxious after the incident.

Manju had brought calves to the fields to graze and the locals believe that the tiger came to attack the calves. Though many said they have spotted a tiger in Alooru, locals took it to be rumours. The attack on Shantha Shetty has confirmed the presence of the tiger.

Forest authorities are not strict on those who steal woods and cut the forests.... The impact is wild animals are homeless and target villagers...... No serious action plans though such incidents are quite common now.

Forests are homes for animals and when deforestation happens, animals move towards cities hoping to get domesticated animals. The Forest Dept. should take quick action to catch the big cat before it goes after another person.
Mrs. Shetty was very lucky to escape from the tiger. I would say it was a great escape. I wish her speedy recovery from her injuries.

She could only say ,from luck still live. Not always one will be alive after a tiger attack, and had not caught her on neck.Thank God no other injuries. When tiger has no more wild animals to forest ,naturally come to human living areas.Forest officer should think of this.

Aunty you is correct but what forest official can do about this things. Can they bring animals for the wilds animals to eat . It ISN the illegal destroying of forest leading to this situations. This animal only is protest illegal entry of this lady into its territory. If tiger is attacked her for food it would have eat her it would not just cause few injury and leave her. It is matter of grave concern
