Mangaluru, Aug 6: “A person who has struggled in life can understand the struggles or poverty of others in a better way. Only they can understand the challenges faced by the poor. The struggles in their initial stage of life make them generous towards the society and make them help the needy. It is everyone’s duty to give back to the society what they receive. This should continue without becoming selfish,” said Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangaluru.

He was speaking at the scholarship distribution programme by MCCQ Charitable Trust an initiative of Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), Qatar, held at Bajjodi, on Sunday, August 5.

“The members of MCC Qatar have come forward to help children by awarding scholarships. They are distributing a part of their savings for the betterment of the society. They understand the fact that children are the future of our society. If children receive good education, they will lead the society to do good deeds and they will themselves become generous in helping the needy. So I appreciate all the members of MCC Qatar for their good intention and a meaningful project,” he said.

Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld Media who attended as chief guest said, “Every year, MCC Qatar holds many pro-social and cultural events. I had attended one of their programmes in Qatar. Today, the situation in Gulf countries is not the same as compared to earlier days. Uncertainty of jobs is a major issue. This move by MCC to help others in these crucial times is appreciable. I wish the very best for MCC Qatar,”

Fr Antony Serra, director, Catholic Education Board, Richard D’Souza, trustee, MCC Qatar and members were present during the function.

As many as 30 students received scholarships on the occasion.

Former president of MCC Qatar, Prakash Noronha, rendered the vote of thanks. Fr Pius D’Souza, the local coordinator of MCC Qatar Charitable Trust spoke on the occasion and briefed about the trust.
