Bengaluru, Aug 7: The state Social Welfare department has launched a 24X7 helpline for providing information pertaining to the activities and programmes and also for redressal of grievances about the department.
Kalayana Kendra, is a first of its kind initiative in the country. People can also access the helpline via WhatsApp, SMS and Telegram.
Speaking on the occasion, deputy chief minister Dr G Parameshwara, said, “The Kalyana Kendra helpline launched by the Social Welfare department is an endeavour to strive for the welfare and development of the downtrodden and weaker sections of the society, as envisaged by the Indian Constitution."
"The success of this initiative will be determined by the level of public engagement. I urge all to avail of the Kalyana Kendra helpline - even anonymous complaints can be registered - to facilitate the development of a just and equal society," he said.
Social Welfare minister Priyank Kharge said, “The Social Welfare department is the first in the country to make this kind of effort to ensure that people belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are empowered with information & processes of the Government benefits accorded to them. The Kalyana Kendra helpline also makes it easier for the public to register their complaints regarding the functioning of the department.”
In the case of complaints, Kalyana Kendra will provide an instant registration number once the complaint is registered. The grievance will then be forwarded to the concerned government official. The details of action taken for redressal of the complaint will be provided to the applicants as well to the officers within a specified time.
“If the issue is not resolved within the specified period at the taluk or district level, it will be forwarded to the higher authorities till it reaches the director of the Social Welfare department, commissioner and additional chief secretary and finally, the Social Welfare minister," assured Lakshminarayan, even as he appealed to the general public, students staying in hostels, and their parents to avail of the Kalyana Kendra facility.
The state government’s Social Welfare department runs close to 3,000 hostels. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all hostel boarders, the plan is to upload the daily biometric attendance through Kalyana Kendra. Officials will also closely monitor the reports published in daily newspapers pertaining to the Social Welfare department and take suitable action.
