Mangaluru, Jul 5: Carmel School Kotekar celebrated ‘Vanamahotsava’ with great enthusiasm on July 5. The echo club of the school organised a special programme in methe school auditorium to strengthen students' awareness about protecting and preserving the environment.
The programme was graced by the presence of the administrator Sr Julie Ann, principal, Sr Pramila, and vice principal Sr Anitha, whose support and encouragement motivated the students to know their vital role as caretakers of nature.
The event began with a meaningful prayer service, seeking divine blessings for our planet's preservation. Following this, student Harshika highlighted the significance of the celebration of Vanamahotsava, reminding everyone of one's shared responsibility to care for nature and protect our earth from pollution, deforestation and climate change. She emphasised that caring for the Earth is a sacred, God-given duty requiring action from every individual.

Principal Sr Pramila gave an inspiring address, highlighting Vanamahotsava as a crucial day in India, particularly given current environmental challenges. She beautifully described trees as silent, selfless helpers, providing us with food, fruit, shelter and relaxation, while also supporting diverse wildlife—all without asking for anything in return. She urged everyone to plant more trees and keep their surroundings clean, reminding students that nurturing these plants would symbolize their continuous commitment to environmental conservation.
She also emphasised that even small actions, like planting a sapling or refusing a plastic bag, can create positive change over time. As a meaningful gesture, she distributed fruit saplings to the leaders of grades 6 to 10, inviting them to plant these around the school campus.
The event concluded with a collective pledge: “A tree today, a better tomorrow”
Students declared that they would protect nature, promote greenery and take every step possible to build a sustainable environment for future generations to come.
