Srinivas University’s Institute of Aviation Studies hosts ‘Cooking Without Fire’ competition

Mangaluru, Jul 5: The Institute of Aviation Studies, Srinivas University, organised a vibrant Cooking Without Fire competition on July 4.

The event aimed to encourage creative thinking, collaborative execution and also focusing on aviation industry-relevant skills such as presentation, hygiene, and guest service. A total of 16 teams participated in the competition from BBA Aviation Management, BBA Aviation and Logistics Management, BBA Aviation Travel and Tourism Management and MBA Aviation Management.

The event was coordinated under the guidance of Dr Pavithra Kumari, Dean; Anjana T V, head of the department and Pratheeksha P Shetty, cultural forum coordinator with the support of other faculty members.

The students prepared an impressive variety of innovative dishes using only natural and readily available ingredients, without the use of fire.

Beyond food preparation, the participants were also required to serve and present their dishes to a panel of judges, simulating real-time hospitality scenarios. Judging was based on taste, presentation, and service style, allowing students to demonstrate essential soft skills that are highly valued in the aviation and customer service industries.

In the undergraduate category, the first place was awarded to the team from II Year BBA Aviation and Logistics Management, comprising Felcita Felix Dias, Fathimath Zohara, Fathima Shaziya, Ayishath Sufaila, Mashood J, Shaziya Zainaba, Khatheejathul Misbah, and Fathimath Nihala B.

The second place was shared by two teams from II Year BBA Aviation Management. The first team included Shreesha, H N Swapna, Reshma, Prapthi K S, Yashaswini, Prathvi, Prajutha, and Amrutha R, while the second team consisted of Shivani, Suraksha, Lakshitha S K, Nishitha G Shetty, Anna Preethika, B U Preksha, Kshithi K, and Nikitha Lewis.

In the postgraduate category, the first place was secured by the team from I Year MBA Aviation Management, comprising Agal K M, Sharon John D’Silva, Numair Abdul Jabbar, Anantha Krishna K K, and Haaritth Ahmed.

Overall, the cooking without fire competition served as an excellent platform for students to showcase their creativity while honing professional and interpersonal skills aligned with the demands of the aviation and hospitality industries.
