Mangalore: Swami Agnivesh to Lecture at Mangalore University

Mangalore, Oct 19: Swami Agnivesh, a veteran trade unionist and crusader of communal harmony, will deliver a lecture on ‘Religions for a Just and Peaceful Society’, at the Old Senate hall, Mangalore University, at 3.00 pm on Monday October 20.

The lecture has been organized by the varsity chair in Christianity and the department of political science. Swami Agnivesh is a multi-faceted personality, involved in social justice, who has unstintingly worked for nearly three decades for the liberation of bonded labourers. 

He has also the founder of a trade union of wage earners in kiln and quarry industries, and has campaigned against ‘Sati’ in the northern Indian states. He is the recipient of both national and international awards for promoting social justice, freedom of human rights, and the campaign against slavery.
