Udupi, Aug 26: “May the campaign against drugs in Udupi be a noble contribution for the country and may the strength of youth be put to good use for the formation of dream India,” said Udupi Adamaru math junior seer Ishapriya Theertha.
He gave discourse in ‘Selfy with Sahi’ campaign against drug addiction held by district police department, Udupi district working journalist’s association and Press club at Canara mall, Manipal on Saturday, August 25.
“Mind arrests man. The five senses of man take away man wherever they want like a horse. Mind should gain control on senses. Life falls in a cliff called addiction otherwise. Brain has s set strength. It should be filled with good thoughts and not bad thoughts. Drugs give momentary satisfaction. Our associations and companions should be good. The age from 12 to 20 is fickle. If we do not achieve control during those days, we will not be able to get up anytime later. Family system and joint families have collapsed. Let campaigns such as these be a model for youth to proceed in right direction,” he said.
Udupi diocese Bishop Dr Jerald Isac Lobo said that temporary joy spoils entire life. “Young people get addicted to drugs due to family related problems and pressure from friends. It adversely affects relationships and makes human beings slaves. As per world health organization, more than ten lac people are addicted to drugs. Drugs make all the parts of the body useless. The addiction spoils life given by God. Young people should pledge that they will give up addiction and start a new life now.”
Malpe Sayyed Abbobacker Siddiqui of Jamia Masjid, Moulana Imranulla Khan Mansoori said that the almighty has created man to destroy bad and establish what is good. “Land is required for agriculture. If thrash is not removed from there, good crop cannot be grown there. Silence of good people is the cause of evil. It is not sufficient to say that I am on right path. We should find out if the one with me is also right. Parents should not only be parents but trainers for children. When children lose their way, parents should bring them back to right way,” he suggested.
Vijay Mayya Aila, actor and winner of award said that drug addiction engulfs us if we do not keep our mind under control. “Too much discipline of the parents also makes children lose their way. Artistes and influential media should create awareness in this direction,” he said.
Adamaru Swamiji drew attention when he walked with students from Udupi to Manipal.
Udupi district SP Laxman Nimbargi gave an introductory speech. Canara mall manager Prakash, Acumen training center managing trustee Joel Soans, additional SP Kumarachandra, district working journalist’s association president Ganesh Prasad Pandelu were present.
