Madikeri: Boy drowns during immersion of Ganesha idol

Madikeri, Sep 14: In a tragic incident which happened at Arashinakuppe in Siddalingapura near Kushalnagar, a 13-year-old boy drowned when immersing the idol of Lord Ganesha on Thursday September 13.

The deceased was Hemanth (13), second son of Ananth Kumar and Padma couple from Arashinakuppe. He was a student of the government school at Siddalingapura. It is said that when immersing the idol, he lost balance, slipped and drowned.

A group of people including Hemanth had gone in a procession late afternoon on Thursday to immerse the idol of Lord Ganapati in Bidirukatte pond. As none of the boys knew how to swim, none among them ventured to rescue the boy during the unexpected tragedy, it is said. Hemanth is survived by parents and a brother.

A report about the incident was filed in Kushalnagar rural police station. The police have undertaken investigation.
