Udupi: Scooter rider killed under wheels of container

Udupi, Sep 14: A scooter rider was crushed under the wheels of a ten-wheel container after the container came in contact with his vehicle and he fell onto the road. The accident happened at Kallianpur Santhekatte near here on the evening of Wednesday September 12.

The person who lost his life in this accident was Gangadhar Kanchan (63) from K G Road near here. He was on his way to the city from his village, when a container, it is said unexpectedly turned left without any indication whilst crossing the barricade at Santhekatte. Even after Kanchan got stuck in the wheel of the vehicle, he was dragged away for some distance as the driver was not aware of it, it is said.

Later, two cranes were used to move the container aside and bring out the body that was stuck underneath, the police stated. A case about this accident was registered in the traffic police station here.

The children of Kanchan who visited the spot of the accident on being informed about it, turned ill at the sight of the mutilated mortal remains. They were provided first aid before they could recover and attend to formalities, it is learnt.
