Bengaluru, Sep 17: Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara said Universities should become centres for creating students future instead of playing the role of being merely shops to distribute degrees.

He was speaking after inaugurating culture, sports, National Service Scheme, Youth Red Cross, Scouts and Guides of the Government First Grade College in Koratagere in Tumakuru District on Monday.

Dr Parameshwara regretted that the universities are just playing role of distributing degree certificates and lakhs of students came out these universities every year and had become jobless.

Education should always bring in changes in economic conditions, he suggested saying there is a need to change the present education system.

The Deputy Chief Minister said China was an example where students were being given job oriented education.

Although a majority of the students in China did not know English, they were in forefront in many aspects, he felt.

People working in the Government funded Universities may not display any real drive. After all, regular work brings regular income. Extra hard work does not bring any additional income or benefits to the people working at such universities.

So, there is no incentive to work harder/smarter.

Private universities are there for the money. Why would they bother what happens to their students after graduation?

Only when the potential employers endorse a University for the quality of its teaching, and the Government funding is tied to such endorsement, there might be some hope of making education a little better.

When we had time to change the education system/syllabus of the future etc etc.. People are chained within the walls of religion, Gods, Caste etc etc, who just vote in blind belief and shut their senses. Leaders busy to keep the people divided and make them flight among themselves. So how and when new futuristic ideas will come when people people who voted remain silent and do not question and question??

"Universities should become centres for creating students future instead of playing the role of being merely shops to distribute degrees". It appears like a vedic chanting by a demon. Let charity begin from home, the Sidhartha Deemed University at Tumakuru where he is having stake. From collection to excess fees, illegal charging of non refundable caution deposit, imposing of Building maintenance fee, Non payment of mandatory stipend to interns and residents, charging of excessive repeatation fee, compulsory failures of students to augment income, creation of dummy files, sub standard infrastructure, shortage of faculty.....the list is unending. This institution is a shame for higher education in India. Let him correct it before giving sermons....!

    Langooor,
Because of our nonsense and cheap mentality of critising in every steps of government activities, we failed to bring a single government college to udupi or mangalore area except KREC. We never bother about demanding development, only critise everything sitting in some europe or america, again critising westernisation.... strange people..!!!
