Bagalkot, Sep 17: Probably one human life would have been saved if the people at the accident site gave importance to the life of the person who was stuck under the truck than collecting the spilling cooking oil from the truck that met with an accident.

Due to this inhuman act of the people, Taparaja Krishnappa Gari, the driver of the truck that collided with a stationary container truck lost his life.

This incident is reported from Mudgal cross on national highway 57, on the outskirts of Ilkal in the district on the afternoon of Sunday, September 16.

The truck driven by the deceased Taparaja, banged the rear side of a container truck, carrying cooking oil that was parked on the roadside as it had some mechanical problem. Due to the impact of the truck from behind, the cooking oil in the container truck started getting spilt over the highway. The locals who came to know about this ran towards the container truck with jar and bottles to collect the oil. The driver of the truck, which had collided with this container truck was fighting for his life as he had got stuck between the vehicles.

People who were busy collecting the oil did not make an attempt to save the life of the hapless driver. Later, some good samaritans who arrived at the spot informed the matter and called for 108 ambulance and also the police. When the police arrived on the spot, the good Samaritans tried to remove the driver from the vehicle. However, the driver had breathed his last by that time as he had lost a lot of blood due to the delay.

If the people had tried to remove the driver instead of collecting the oil, the driver probably would have been saved.

More than eight to 10 bikes got skidded off the road due to the spilled cooking oil on the road. One Tata Sumo skidded and went and entangled in a bush nearby the highway. Ilkal police cleared both the trucks through the use of heavy duty crane.
