Mandya, Sep 19: In an incident reported from Gowdagere village near Malavalli in the district on Monday September 17, a man, who quarreled with his wife on silly pretext killed her with a hammer. Later, he hanged himself.
The husband-wife duo which lost lives in this incident was Basammani (55) and Basappa (58). On some minor issue, the two had fought over a frivolous matter. After the verbal friction, Basappa got enraged and hit his wife, Basammani's head, with a hammer. Basammani died on the spot.
Thereafter, Basappa was not to be seen. Sometime later, he presumably hanged himself from a tree in the outskirts of his village. This suicide came to light only on Tuesday morning after someone sighted his body.
