Udupi: Hit by lorry, woman crossing road dies on spot at Brahmavar

Udupi, Sep 22: A woman, who was crossing the road, died on the spot after a lorry hit her at Brahmavar Junction on Saturday, September 22.

Geetha (36), is the person deceased. Originally from Hiriadka, she started staying at Hangarkatte after her marriage.

As per details available, Geetha was going to a clinic with her husband Subramanya and child. While crossing the road, Subramanya carried the child. Geetha was following them. Subramanya reached the other side of the road, with the child and Geetha was still crossing the road. At that time, a lorry hit her and she died instantly.

It is said that a bus entered the highway suddenly breaking the traffic rule. This confused the lorry driver and he hit the road divider first and then Geetha, resulting in her death.

Brahmavar police have registered a case.

    The NHAI/concerned authorities has built Brahmavar/Akashvani Junctions in as UNPLANNED manner as possible. There is an underpass to NH66 near the Govt Hospital Brahmavar(between Brahmavara Bus Stand and Akashvani Junction). I'm not a civil engineer but No matter from whatever the perspective we see, there isnt any point in constructing and underpass there, rather it would have been beneficial if the underpass would have raised near Brahmavara Junction or Akashvani Junction, where the fast moving traffic could move from above and the bypassing/slow moving traffic could use underpass. Maybe if above mentioned junctions would have been built in a well planned manner by NHAI, at least handful number of lives would have been saved.

    OVERHEAD PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE (with lifts) is very badly required in both the above mentioned hotspots. Atleast this could save pedestrians. But for vehicle drivers, unfortunately, hardly something is gonna change at these places in near future.
    May be, if Brahmavara Police station deploys one policemen in Akashvani and Brahmavara Bus stand each on a regular basis to regulate the traffic , then it would be of added help to general public.

    Brahamavar cross is a very dangerous one. There need to be good indicators and dividers and good lighting

    Dear Pradee ---If highway authorities not provided the pedestrian crossing lines means drivers should be careful. Reckless driving is not good . If there is no Traffc Police person on duty means you can not violate the traffic rules. That time drivers should be careful. H

    Brahmavar bus stop is along the highway. In the vicinity of bus stop junction the buses enter the bus stop, routed from highway and road crosswalk is tedious, no proper plan. It is time that elected representatives put a proper plan and take care of traffic diversion in to and out of bus stop.

    These are all fake licence holders. They kill the pedestrian. If Gulf type punishment comes to India, then only everything is ok. There are many driving license educated are in our country but they don't know where is RTO office.

    Why blaming only on Indian drivers??? Give perfect way for crossing pedestrian Let Highway Authorities have some Sense on it.. Just collecting toll and keeping quiet will not solve these problems... No one blames on Highway Authorities... No impact on just blaming Drivers...
