Mangaluru, Sep 23: Relating to the murder attempt on Daniel Fernandes at Yeyyady in the outskirts of the city on the night of Thursday, Kankanady police arrested the accused in the case, identified as Jagadeesh Shetty, on Saturday September 22.

On being produced in the court, Jagadeesh was remanded to judicial custody.

It is said that Daniel and Jagadeesh used to be together and worked as coolies. They slept at night by the roadside, it is said. Some said they also fought with each other on some occasions in drunken state.

On Thursday evening, the two had fought over some silly issue. Later, when Daniel was asleep, Jagadeesh reportedly dropped a boulder on his head. The locals immediately conveyed information to the police, who admitted the injured man into the hospital. Daniel, who was being treated in the intensive care unit of a hospital here was shifted from a private hospital to Wenlock Hospital on Saturday, police personnel said.
