Puttur: GP holds meeting, demands action against rape attempt accused

Puttur, Sep 23: Badagannur gram panchayat (GP) here convened an emergency meeting in the backdrop of an attempt to rape a member of the GP who also functions as volunteer of the government's 'Asha' scheme. The meeting condemned the incident and sought immediate detection of the culprit and initiation of legal action against him.

President of the GP, Keshava Gowda Kannaya, presided the meeting. GP member, Vijayalaxmi, who is an Asha volunteer at Paduvannur under Ishwaramangala primary health centre, was returning after visiting houses in Pundikai, Konethota etc within Paduvannur village and Anganwadi centres at Sajamkady and Kukkaje, when a person named Muhammed Kunhi Hajii Dembale allegedly stopped her, obstructed her from attending to her duties and attempted to rape her, it is said. The meeting strongly denounced the incident.

A unanimous resolution was taken to write to the district deputy commissioner of the district through the taluk panchayat executive officer, district superintendent of police, Sampya staiton house officer and district health officer, complaining about this incident.
