Moodbidri: ICYM Shirthady unit organises blood donation camp

Moodbidri, Sep 24: As part of its continuous endeavour to serve the society, ICYM Shirthady Unit in collaboration with Souhardha Friends Club, Shirthady and Fr Mullers Hospital Mangaluru organised a blood donation camp under ICYM Blood Account at Primary Health Centre, Shirthady on September 16. The camp had a steady stream of donors throughout. The corridor of the Primary Health Centre was abuzz with people chatting with each other, happy to be able to play their part in lending a helping hand to people in the region.

The event commenced with a prayer song led by Valenteena Castelino and team. Fr Francis Crasta, parish priest, Mount Carmel Church, Shirthady presided over the programme along with the chief guest Dr Ashirwad, honorary president, Souhardha Friends Club Shirthady, Praveen Kumar Jain, president, Souhardha Friends Club, Dr Naseeba, medical officer, Primary Health Centre Shirthady, Dr Anand, medicine, Fr Mullers Hospital, Wilfred Pinto, vice president and Maria Lita Pereira, secretary, parish pastoral council, and Herald Dsilva, animator, ICYM Shirthady unit.



Chintan Lob, president, ICYM Shirthady unit welcomed the gathering. Fr Francis Crasta and Dr Ashirwad addressed the gathering on the importance of Blood Donation. Preemal Dsa, secretary, ICYM Shirthady unit proposed the vote of thanks. Wedney Pinto hosted the inaugural programme.

Many members from ICYM Shirthady unit and Souhardha Friends Club donated blood in turn inspiring others to do the same. Around 120 people came forth to donate blood but only 83 were eligible as per medical tests. Glucose water and apples were provided to all the donors donated by Joe Suares, Surathkal. The samples were carefully sealed and transported away, while the volunteers and hospital staff helped in the clean-up the area.
