Udupi: ‘Pay rent or face action,’ shop owners in commercial complexes told at KDP meeting

Udupi, Sep 30: An instruction has been given to all the shop owners running business in commercial complexes built by gram panchayats in the district to pay their rent immediately.

During a KDP meeting chaired by zilla panchayat president Dinakara Babu on Saturday, September 29, zilla panchayath vice-president Sheela K Shetty said, "many owners who have shops in commercial complexes built by gram panchayats have not paid their rents incurring loss to the gram panchayats. It has also affected in undertaking developmental activities in the rural areas."

"Hence, all the gram panchayats in the district must immediately take action to collect the dues from the shop owners," she said directing officials to give details about actions taken in the next meeting.

President Dinakar Babu said, "Despite issuing several instructions to curb use of plastic in Udupi, it is yet to be controlled. An officer will be accountable if he provides drinking water in plastic bottles in government programmes."

Shrinivas Rao, chief project officer said that there was enough fund available for drinking water projects. "All the drinking water projects need to be undertaken at the earliest," he said.

A district level meeting of Mescom and concerned officials will be called to speed up Ganga Kalyana scheme. Also 3% funds reserved for physically challenged must be utilised and report on the same must be submitted by the concerned departments, president said.

Udupi district zilla panchayat (ZP) CEO Shivanand Kapashi, Sthayee Samithi president Babu Shetty, Uday Kotian, Shashikanth Padubidri were present.
