Udupi, Sep 30: “We respect the Sabarimala verdict by the Supreme Court, even though it is very painful and unfortunate,” said Girish G N, district president, Sabarimala Ayyappa Seva Samajam (SASS).

Addressing a press meet at Udupi press club here on Saturday, September 29, he said the petitioner of the case was Young Lawyers Association but ladies who are part of the association distanced themselves from this case.

“The Sabarimala verdict was passed by a five member bench which comprised of one lady judge. Justice Indu Malhotra was the lone dissenter. She disagreed with the other judges when it came to allowing women of all age’s entry into the Sabarimala temple,” he said.

“This is not the first attempt to destroy the fame of Sabarimala. In 1950, Sabarimala temple and statue were destroyed. Lies were spread that a rat was found in Aravana payasam, Makara Jyothi is fake and rumours on Mullaperiyar dam. However, no one had issue on women being not allowed to go to Sabarimala. Women did not ask permission to go Sabarimala except two-three ladies. It is curse to South India,” he said.

“Mullaperiyar in Kerala drowned 95% because of Tamil Nadu government but no mishap happened. This shows the spiritual power of that place. Court and government should ask opinion of Kerala before announcing any verdict. Each temple is unique and it should not be turned into a public place. This judgment has badly affected the temple and the emotions of people,” he said.

Girish added that the SASS association will appeal before the Supreme Court against the judgment.
