Thiruvananthapuram: Good Samaritan of Kerala deluge cries for help from passersby, dies

Daijiworld Media Network - Thiruvananthapuram (MS)

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 3: Many believe in the saying 'Courtesy begets Courtsey'. However, this saying utterly failed in the case of a young man, who saved more than 100 people in the recent deluge in Kerala.

Jinesh (24), a hero, who saved the livers of many, swimming continuously and bringing people to shore from the areas where they were stuck badly, died in a road accident on Sunday, Sep 30 as his repeated pleas for help from people passing by the accident spot went unheard by the inhuman passersby.

Jinesh's friend Jagan says, "Jinesh was lying on the road and was wailing for help as he was crushed below his waist by a truck but no one helped him." Jinesh was riding the bike, while Jagan was accompanying him as pillion and the bike stumbled and fell. Jinesh who was thrown off his bike on the road came under a speeding truck, which could not come to halt in time to save him from crushing under its wheels.

Jinesh

A teary-eyed Jagan, a friend of Jinesh, describing the inhuman attitude of people, said, "It is unbelievable that such a thing can happen to a person like Jinesh. He always lend a helping hand to others in his life. To my utter dismay, not a single person stopped to help us. We together with Jinesh have saved the lives of more than a hundred people in the recent floods in Chengannur."

The ambulance reported to the site of the accident after half an hour and both Jagan and Jinesh were rushed to the hospital. However, Jinesh succumbed to the injuries after a while as vital time was lost in making a phone call to the ambulance.

Selvi, devastated mother of Jinesh said, "When the priest from the church sought help in a meeting from fishermen during the deluge, Jinesh and his six friends just took the boat and got into the act of saving people without waiting for others. The other set of people started the rescue only from the next day. Such was Jinesh's zeal to help people who are in distress."

Apart from helping people, Jinesh was also a very good dancer and cricket player. The number of trophies that adorn the shelf in a remote corner of his family's small house with a cracked roof is the evidence for his cricketing and dancing skills.

People who were saved by Jinesh during the floods are visiting Jinesh's house to offer their condolences and say thanks to Selvi, Jinesh's mother, for the virtually second life that Jinesh has given to them.

One such man who was saved by Jinesh said in an emotionally choked voice, "The death of Jinesh is an eye opener to all of us. We should feel that the person who has met with an accident on the road is a human being like us and we should give utmost priority to help them. It is just disgusting that we are allowing the accident victims to die because of our lack of humane feelings."

This is the barometer to human compassion &level of consciousness that we ….so called humans have these days.

People live their bubble/world and run their errands as rat race and when it comes to ourselves in trouble/difficulty we cry for help and we never stop for a moment if someone has met with an accident or in serious trouble just because our work and our time is important!!!

A heart without a compassion especially under circumstances this man was begging for help, is not worth living, all our prayers, rituals, homas, is useless when we cannot help a being looking for help.

RIP BRO. THE PROBLEM IN INDIA SPECIALLY IN MANGALORE IS IF AT ALL SOMEONE TAKES A PERSON TO THE HOSPITAL, AND THE PERSON DIES ON THE ROAD OR HOSPITAL, POLICE WILL LOOK FOR THE PERSON WHO TOOK THE PERSON TO HOSPITAL, AND THEY MAY REGISTER A CASE AGAINST HIM AS THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS RESPONSIBLE ALREADY ABSCONDING, AND THE PERSON HAS TO GO TO POLICE STATION AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS OF POLICE AND HE HAS TO GO TO POLICE STATION AND SIGN THE DOCUMENTS RATHER THAN APPRECIATION.
    THATS WHY PEOPLE NOT STOPPING.

May the Lord take him in His Eternity Home. Amma, mother of Jinesh, please accept my sympathy towards this unexpected death. Surely Jinesh is in a best place.

How inhumane this can be. It does not matter whether you know him or not. He was crying for help and his friend was calling people to help them. How the passers by can be so deaf and dumb? Do they know this can happen to anyone. Our Lord came down to serve the people and He taught us to serve others. Love your neighbour and the neighbour can be anywhere and anyone. Why do people become self centred? Due to this we lost a young Jinesh who served people and a son of his mother. How can we control her tears?

No one knows how the death comes. So we need to be ready by doing good to others as we only take our good deeds on the death bed.

Accidents may happen due to bad conditions of Road or vehicles and human error. Late arrival of Ambulance to save the victim is really sad to read. The passers near by could have at least called Police and Ambulance immediately. The para medical team in Ambulance would have known the technique to lift the victim and give first aid. However water, Lime juice or other fruit juice could have helped the patient little more. Really sad to read this incident. Literacy high, Humanity low in this case, in Kerala.

These type of cruel people more in DK and Udupi. We.are all in human. While there is emergency and need our help we just escape. There should be lot of.changes in law. If the people rescued somebody and if he not ready to give statement then law should not harass them.

My heart bleeds while reading this news...But its important to look inward and check what I would have done at this situation? At least its the time to take moral decision and say, yes, I will not become another just passerby watching a incident or accident like a tv scene. I will act and celebrate humanity. Love you Jinesh.

@Mahathma mangalore, strange ,you are asking how to help since he is smashed completely below waste. One way you are right he is smashed .still one can go near to him .can offer a little water or consoling words.or simply try to push a bedsheet underhim and lift him aside .Need not look and take a video too when he is suffering. Its like moking .May God give him the needed price for his good deeds done on earth,,which he was denied ,decieved when he was in need.May his soul rest in peace.God will always reward one atleast in Heaven.Heartfelt sympathy to his family .May God give enough strenght to bear the loss of this Gem to them.

    RIP Jinesh,
This is the irony of life. just few days back President announced Good Samaritan Law, people could have saved your life without any risk.
Its difficult to take gravely injured and bleeding victim to hospital, i will definitely make Conscious efforts to help such victimes if a come across in future.
