Udupi: Dr G Shankar Trust donates Rs 60 lac to 309 cancer, kidney patients in Kasturba Hospital

Udupi, Oct 5: The G Shankar Family Trust on Friday, October 5, came to the aid of 309 patients suffering from cancer and kidney ailments at a function here on Friday. The Dr G Shankar Family Trust, in association with Manipal Academy of Higher Education handed over cheques worth 60 lakh rupees to 129 cancer patients, 154 kidney patients and another 26 patients from Dr T M A Pai Hospital, Udupi. The occasion was the 63rd birthday of Dr G Shankar, a well-known philanthropist and industrialist of the district.

Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor MAHE, Dr Pragna Rao, dean, KMC Manipal, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and the office bearers of the Mogaveera Yuva Sangatne were present.

Like boat may find it hard in rough sea, undergoing preventive tests and early identification is like remaining in the mild river and a key to survival says Dr G Shankar. G Shankar handed over cheque for support for treatment of patients for cancer and kidney diseases.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ballal said that G Shankar is a real ‘Kodu Kai Daani’ and added this was the best way to celebrate a birthday by providing benefits to the community. He wished him long life.

The G Shankar Family trust has several times in the past provided financial support to the needy. Mr Shankar also supports the Manipal Arogya Suraksha Card programme for the Mogaveera community and it also includes general public from select areas. G Shankar family trust has partnered with Kasturba Hospital Manipal to offer subsidised dialysis for kidney patients and a large number of patients are utilising the scheme.

The trustees of Dr G Shankar Family Trust, Anand SK, welcomed the guests and Shanakar Salian introduced the beneficiaries. Jaya C Kotian rendered the vote of thanks and Babanna Shettigar, PRO, MAHE conducted the programme.
