Udupi, Oct 5: Deputy Commissioner of Udupi, Priyanka Mary Francis has asked private hospitals to clearly display their rates for treatment.

She was speaking in a meeting of various health department committees held in her office auditorium on Friday, October 5.

She said that even after orders to display the rates in a prominent place in hospitals, those are being displayed in corners of hospitals away from the sight of people. “In some hospitals old rates are mentioned instead of revised rates,” she said.

She asked district health and family welfare officer to visit private hospitals and conduct inspections and to obtain pictures of the rate display boards in the hospitals before renewing their licences.

The deputy commissioner asked doctors to hold mandatory training to pregnant women in wards itself to prevent death of new-born babies.

“Land has been reserved in Senapura for Endosulfan victims. The land should be fenced by the department of health. Necessary equipment should be provided to the victims,” she said.

“Child labour makes us bow our heads in shame,” said the additional commissioner during the meeting.
DHO Dr Rohini, officials from the department of health and other officials were present.

operation charges as well as all medical tests should be displayed on the hospital notice board with the consultation charges. Even DC and corporation office should display all service with document required and charges on the notice board and website clearly. Now only we can see rates of Ambade and goli baje displayed in the restaurants.
Even Lawyers, CA's, all service and consultation charges should be displayed. When you go to a doctor for consultation , he will ask what you do or work. According to that some doctors increase their consultation charges.
Also, all textile shops specially saris should have a price tag.

Small request from DC please display or arrange a check list of required documents for and govt. related works. It's easy for a common man to get work dun. It's common sending the people back untill they get the bribe.

Is it a law that the rates have to be displayed or is she making a law of her own?
Why only the hospitals? Why not all professionals? Do you get even an inkling on how much a lawyer or a CA is going to charge you before you start using the services? These are some of the examples of highly charging professions.

On the other side, even a vehicle mechanic does not tell you the charges till he completes the work. What is this lady going to do about it?
The only area where the charge is spelt out first is the bribe amount required to get the work done in DC office or any other Govt. office for that matter. There you know how much is expected to be shelled out as otherwise the work does not get done.

High time to click selfie with those old rates displayed in hospitals and send to DC, as well as through social media.

Rates must be shown in hospital websites too.

Let us hope that the price of all medicines, check up, surgery, various evaluations etc is made known to public very clearly like the price of any other goods and services . There are very good doctors who consider the profession as sacred and strive for the better and affordable treatment to the needy and in no way we doubt their services. But unfortunately there are reports that clinics and hospitals engage in manipulation to squeeze more money to get revenue for the maintenance of their clinic and overall cost. We hope that the medical fraternity continue to provide better and affordable medicine and services to the needy with the help of all including government for the better healthy society.

Good move by DC Priyanka. In the hospital,Doctors visit charge should be only ones in a week even same doctor visits twice daily. Every day visiting charges will rob the poor patient.
Even gold jewellers should display clearly different making charges along with the daily gold rates. Also should be correctly printed one the bill.

Its Government's duty to provide education and health care, but they are nowhere close to it.
Now they have no business to interfere in Private Hospitals and Schools.

Then why do private hospitals and schools demand govt land? Those who take govt facilities should give treatment or education in subsided rates to poor. Nothing wrong in govt demanding it.

In Mangalore charitable hospitals do good job but I cannot digest the fact that in ICU a close member like parents of children are not allowed in ICU to hold hands of a dying patient. In a day once for five mins.!!!!!! Please look into this matter. Child mother , parents children relationship a touch and talking to patient can heal them

This should be implemented through out the country by Central government.
There should be 3 grades of private hospitals like, Grade A, B, C.
The government should declare rates for surgery, treatment & rooms for each grades.
There is a tremendous loot in medicare sector, rates differ for mediclaim patients and normal patients.
Hospitals and education sectors have become utter source of business and black money.
