Sadio Mane pens five year contract extension with Liverpool

London, Nov 23 (IANS): Premier League (PL) side Liverpool and Senegalese winger Sadio Mane reached an agreement to extend Mane's contract with the Reds, the club announced on Friday.

The new contract is to link Mane, who landed at Anfield stadium in the summer of 2016 coming from Southampton, with Liverpool until 2023, reports Efe news.

"It is a great day for me," Mane said, adding, "I've always said, when I knew I had a chance to come here I didn't have to think twice."

Mane has taken part in a total of 89 matches wearing the Reds' jersey, scoring 40 goals.

The 26-year-old was also a part of the Liverpool team that made it all the way to the UEFA Champions League final last season.

Liverpool aims to top the Premier League for the first time since the Reds' last title in 1990 with the team presently holding the second spot in the overall PL standings with 30 points, just two points behind leader and defending champion Manchester city.
