Bengaluru: Government says Manippady report recommendations were rejected

Bengaluru, Nov 28: The state government told the high court which is examining a contempt of court petition filed against it on Tuesday, November 27, that the recommendations made in the report filed by Anwar Manippady, former chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Commission, about irregularities relating to Wakf properties, were
rejected by the house long back.

Advocate general of the state, Uday Holla, gave this information to the division bench of the high court chaired by Justice L Narayana Swamy and Justice H P Sandesh, which is examining a contempt of court filed against the government by former minister, S K Kantha.

"The petitioner seeks tabling of the report under section 10(2) of Karnataka State Minorities Commission Act 1994. But as per the said section, not the report, but only recommendations of the commission can be tabled. The government had tabled the recommendations in the house on March 3, 2016, and they were rejected. Therefore there is no question of tabling the report," Holla argued.

On the basis of petition filed by the petitioner, the high court has ordered to move the Manippady report in the house. The government has filed review petition seeking modification of the order. This petition will come before the special bench on Wednesday. Therefore, the petitioner had sought adjournment of the hearing. The bench, considering this plea, adjourned hearing of the contempt of court petition to December 5.
