Dortmund strengthens Bundesliga lead, Gnabry secures Bayern's win


Dortmund (Germany), Dec 2 (IANS): Borussia Dortmund has defeated Freiburg 2-0 in Bundesliga, strengthening its hold on the top spot, while Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry struck twice against Werder Bremen for a 2-1 win, giving the defending champions their seventh win this season.

Germany playmaker Marco Reus opened the scoring for Dortmund on a penalty attempt five minutes before the first-half stoppage time on Saturday night, reports Efe news.

Spain striker Paco Alcacer waited until the first minute of second-half stoppage time to secure the win.

The Black and Yellows have 33 points in the German league table and a seven-point lead over second-placed Borussia Monchengladbach, which is to play its Matchday 13 duel with Leipzig on Sunday.

Freiburg is provisionally in 12th place with 14 points.

In other Bundesliga action on Saturday, Gnabry scored for Bayern in the 20th minute, but Bremen striker Yuya Osako equalized 13 minutes later.

Gnabry struck again in the 50th minute, allowing Bayer Munich to provisionally regain the third spot in the league standings with 24 points.

Bremen is in eighth place with 18 points, pending the remaining Matchday 13 games.
