Udupi, Dec 21: Shankravva (30), living in huts at Beedinagudde, consumed poison. It is said that she was unable to bear physical and mental torture inflicted on her by her husband. She is now being treated at the government district hospital at Ajjarkad here.
Shankravva had married Mahantesh 13 years back. The couple has three children. Mahantesh reportedly comes home drunk every day and physically and mentally tortures his wife. On December 17, he beat her up and drove her out of his home. As he again came home fully dunk on December 18 and used obscene words against her, Shankravva had
consumed rat poison.
