Udupi, Dec 22: Mahiti Seva and Mass India NGO president G A Kotekar said that every auto rickshaw driver should have the facility of ESI and PF. Speaking at Udupi press club on Friday he said that Siddi Vinayaka Auto company was opened for this purpose.

He said that unseen hands and political leaders are seen on the outset preventing zonewise colour coding of auto rickshaws.

“Therefore, the committee puts forwards several important demands. Auto rickshaw drivers should mandatorily put the meter on while charging passengers. Most auto rickshaw drivers charge extra without turning on the meter. Insurance companies should be prevented from collecting double insurance premium for auto rickshaws.

“Most companies manufacturing auto rickshaws use fibre in the spare parts. Insurance cannot be claimed on fibre parts. Therefore, drivers feel cheated. The government should provide gas at subsidized rates for auto rickshaws,” he said.
