Udupi, Jan 14: The third annual day celebrations of the district Women Entrepreneurs Association and three days exhibition-cum-sale of their products, was inaugurated on Tuesday January 13 morning, at Palimar Math auditorium, located at Car Street here.

Syndicate Bank deputy general manager Sujir Prabhakar inaugurated the programme. 

Speaking on the occasion, Sujir Prabhakar said that the women entrepreneurs play a key role in the progress of the society, and hence there is a need for more and more women to take an active role in the economic progress of their families.  The setting up of the Stree Shakti Self Help Groups (SHGs) indeed has resulted in increased earnings of the families, which has  empowered rural students to study further.  A significant number of women from the district are engaged in cashew industry, fisheries and printing press.  As the IT sector has come under the impact of the global meltdown, it is advisable for more number of women to take up self employment, he emphasized.



District textile department deputy director B R Yogish, Women Entrepreneurs Association Mangalore president Sumati Hegde and Manipal Institute of Management Dr Anantapadmanabha Achar were the chief guests of the occasion.

District Industries Centre assistant director Ramesh Murthy presided over the programme.

Varada Yogish of the District Women Entrepreneurs Association welcomed the gathering.  Secretary Shashikala D Rao presented the annual report.  Shubha Nagaraj compered the programme.
