Udupi, Jan 15:
Arts Chimes – 2009, an inter-collegiate cultural competition, held at the Muddana Mantap of MGM College here under the aegis of MGM College Arts Club, concluded on Tuesday January 13.

Mahavir College Moodbidri bagged the overall championship trophy, while the Government First Grade College Tenkanidiyoor  here became the runner up.

Coastal Development Authority chairman Nagaraj Shetty presented the prizes to the winners.

Speaking on the occasion, Nagaraj Shetty expressed concern at the fact that the students seem to be increasingly losing interest in taking part in the cultural activities, in the post-globalization era.  These activities help the students to acquire leadership skills. Hence, programmes like these should be conducted regularly to prepare the students for the future towards the brighter future of the nation, he said. Patriotism should be inculcated among the students, who should be discouraged from leaning towards negative activities, he added.

MGM College principal Prof Jayaprakash Mavinakuli presided over the programme.

MGM Pre University College principal Anusuya Karkera and arts department head Prof H S Jayasri were present at the dais.

Nischit Shetty welcomed the gathering.  Nagesh proposed vote of thanks.  Srilaxmi compered the programme.
