Udupi, Feb 13: Government Higher Primary School Teachers’ Association members will be holding a protest rally and public meeting on Saturday, February 16 at DC office premises, for fulfillment of various demands, said Association president Ravindra Hegde.

Addressing a press meet at Udupi press club on Wednesday, February 13, he said according to the teachers’ transfer act 2007, the transfer process is supposed to begin in the month of March and April. But it was not done due to election code of conduct last year. Most of the teachers wanted transfer and are waiting for directions from the government. Considering the years of service they have put in, government should order transfer, he said.

He also stressed that teachers who are graduates need to be promoted. The government has released a notification to recruit 10,000 graduate teachers. But if the recruitment takes place it will be injustice to currently serving teachers, Hegde said.

Udupi taluk president Mangala Shetty said that the new pension system should be cancelled and the old pension system should be reintroduced for all government teachers.

Another demand put forth was the promotion of head teachers. Since two years it has not been done by the government, Hegde said.

Get them back to service those who are disqualified in rural grace mark system and provide them all facilities as others, said Krishna Moily, Karkala.

The government should make teachers free from BLO and non-educational activities, Dinakar Shetty demanded.

There are 2,800 higher primary teachers in Udupi district. Let the government pass transfer order, before election code of conduct is implemented. The additional guest lecturers can be balanced out, once the promotion order gets passed.

Sadaram Shetty, Association vice president, Prakash B B, general secretary, Vishwanath Poojary and others were present.
