  • 1,500-staff to be trained in batches of 50 on every second Saturday

Mangalore, Jan 30: Shocked at the spate of complaints about rude behaviour of private bus drivers and conductors, the Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators’ Association has decided to set the house in order by teaching their crew on how to behave with the people.

The association has organised an eight-day training programme for conductors, drivers and cleaners of city buses on how to behave with passengers from Saturday, according to its general secretary Aziz Parthipady.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, he said the association had received several complaints against drivers and conductors.

Mr. Parthipady said the training would be held at the NGO hall on the premises of the taluk office here. Keshava Dharani, senior traffic inspector at the Regional Transport Office, Mangalore, Gopalakrishna Bhat, Sub-Inspector of Police (traffic), Mangalore East, and Vishveshwari, a volunteer of Prajapitha Brahmakumari Ishwari Vidyalaya, have been drafted to impart training to the bus staff. Mr. Parthipady said that there were 350 city buses in Mangalore with approximately 1,500 employees, including cleaners. They would be trained in batches, he added. According to the schedule, the first training camp would conclude on February 7. Subsequently, all the employees would be trained in batches on every second Saturday, starting from March. Approximately 50 employees would be trained every month, he said.

Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada J. Krishna Palmear will inaugurate the training programme.

They seem to be trying to do the impossible . It is only an attempt in the back of the KSRTC likely taking over the bus services? Where were these people all these years when the public were being harassed ? In future also I doubt any change will come. Let them give concessions/ passes to commuters instead of all such eyewash gimmicks.

I have my own doubt whether your drivers and conductors can be trained at all . They are so used to handling things roughly that no amount to training can help them to become better citizens of Mangalore. Take the example the conductors are so used to whistle and shout, I am sure they must be doing so in their sleep also. Similarly the bus driver some how wants to see that in a day atleast 10 passenger should get injured.

Can u really change them. If the Driver sees any bus which is ahead of his, he will race and drive like he is driving a two wheeler without keeping in mind that there are 50 people inside the bus. Any way nothing wrong in trying to improve this lot. Also if possible see whether with immediate effect you can stop this following :

    1. whistling and shouting "RATE" by conductors. 2. Simply ask the passenger to go in front and asking the front passenger to go back, knowing fully well that there is no space for movement. 3. Remove all types of harsh horns from the buses. 4. Halt the buses only at bus stops and not any where. 5. Absolute no racing/ cutting side in any manner whatsoever. 6. Allowing small vehicles like scooter to pass off smoothly. 7. Start the bus only when the passenger has occupied his/her seat or atleast the passenger is well settled inside the bus. Similarly to start the bus only the passenger has put both his foot down while getting down. For this no training is required and the same can be informed to the beloved Conductors and Drivers.

Dear daiji We all Know about our bus conducter or driver got Attitude Problem specially Mangalore- Manipal Express Routes If our elderly Parents or children while boarding the bus other than start point, they are not even given enough time from doorstep to reach to the seat. when the Passenger just kept a foot on step bus will quickly exelarate on top speed cruising in a unsafe Manner

Even on the tidy river bridges buses must keep below 50 Kmh by this way all we can hope for a pleasant Journey even though all passenger's pay high fare than BEST [Bombay] Due to this unsafe bus staff all passengers and Students life are full of Road Risk Better to give the staff Vidio Lectures Road related Safety test must, before appointing for bus Job And hold control of speed limit at the Junctions like School or Market

Good thing the association had made. It may be too late for you to train your workers now. If government starts the busses then they will be benifitted from your trained workers. Is it to show that you care for people and get their sympathy ???? I think it is too late for you my dear private bus owners !!!!
