Mangalore, Feb 5: President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee R.V. Deshpande on Wednesday inaugurated the Vijay Deeksha Abhiyan of the Congress here, in which hundreds of party workers took part.

Mr. Deshpande charged the BJP with failing to respond to the problems of the people. Those who had applied for ration cards were being made to run from pillar to post. The party had not bothered to implement the Prime Minister’s Grameen Sadak Yojana, he said and added that when the issue was raised by the Congress, the BJP chose to sideline its views.

He expressed regret over the BJP’s attempts to deny political representation to women and backward classes — something which the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had fought for. He was critical of the anti-terrorism movement of the BJP, launched in various educational institutions in the State. Some of those who had organised the campaign themselves were creating terror, he alleged.

He criticised some former party workers for leaving the Congress for the sake of power. He was apparently referring to Congress MLAs who defected to the BJP. He said the party was more important to him than the need for power.

He said the growth of the Congress depended on the work done by its cadres, who were familiar with ground realities.

It was to understand this that the abhiyan was being conducted in the State, he added.

Mr. Deshpande said strengthening of the party should be done not with the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in mind, but aimed at rendering service to the nation and its people.

The former Minister Kumar Bangarappa said that all those who had quit the Congress should return.

The Congress flag was hoisted earlier by Ullal MLA U.T. Khader. Senior party leaders were brought to the venue in a procession by members of the local Congress unit.

I disagree with Eric's comments. We should not forget the good work done by congress to Karnataka. HAL, HMT, ITI, BHEL, BEL and very many, where not in other states. Devraj Urs brought it to Karnataka. Yes they are corrupt. But who is not ?.

BJP is not bothered about the development of the Nation or the people. It is only concerned about the high caste hindus. Christians, Muslims, Daliths and all minorities will suffer under BJP rule. The governemnt is not for the particular castes but for the people. Indians are Indians, and every one has the same constitutional rights. Let the caste system work among the castes and the governenment should not interfere with the caste system.  Every Indian has the right to practice his/her religion he/she likes. It is the constitutional rights of every Indian. Let the government work for the people for their progress. Religion belongs to the churches, Mosques and Temples. That is their right. Hope the politicians  correct their selfishness and rule the country in peace and harmony.

Congress Party is not the  ‘bread and butter’  of the ordinary Indian. They are also very familiar with the fake hope and assurance.  A common man has  nothing to do with any political party. Rich people are always rich and poor people will remain same. Let’s support the honest and hardworking person instead of any political party.

60 Years of Karnataka was ruled by Congress. What did congress do in these 60 years for the people of Karnataka nothing but only corruption increased and infrastructure totally failed. Now with BJP rule state the congress says that BJP has failed to address people's problems. A Party that has failed for 60 years has no right to talk of a New Government that has just comes to Power. A Just born Child will not walk within a few days after its birth. Let BJP rule for the first 5 years and see the progress they make and then the Voters will decide how Good and How Bad their rule was. Even the coming Lok Sabha election in April/May will decide the Positive or Negative Side of BJP. We have observed in India the Opposition party does not allow the ruling the Party to do their Job. This is the Habit of every Political Party when they come to power. Do not play with Voters Mind and the days are over and the Voters have decided enough is enough.

The congress party is trying to exploit the situation in Mangalore. The current leaders in the congress party are incompetent and CORRUPT. Starting with the inaction to the recent Mumbai terror activities by Pakistani criminals to corruption in procurement of weapons for the Indian defence. This party doesn't serve Indian interests any more.
