Udupi: Thousands Pledge to Fight Terrorism as World Celebrates Love

from Divvy Kant Upadhyay
Daijiworld News Network - Udupi (GA)

Udupi, Feb 14: Close to a massive 20,000 students and teachers took part in the Anti-terror Rally held in the city on Saturday February 14 morning. Beginning at the MGM College, the 'jatha' reached the KMC Stadium at Manipal with the rally participants shouting patriotic slogans against terror.

State minister for higher education Arvind Limbavali was present along with a host of other leaders and district officials which included Manipal University Pro-Chancellor Dr HS Ballal, Taranga weekly publisher Sandhya S Pai, former vice-chancellor of Bangalore University Dr NR Shetty, DC Dr P Hemalatha, SP Pravin Pawar, local MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, BJP state president D V Sadananda Gowda and a host of other officials and coordinators.

Minster Arvind Limbavali addressing the students expressed his shock on the fact that educated youth were being implicated for terrorist activities in many cases. Keeping up the tempo of his message he expressed his displeasure on the fact that educated youth from the state were also being misled into supporting terrorism.

Manipal University Pro-Chancellor Dr HS Ballal in his address told the students to take the intiative against terrorism as they would be leading the country in future. Dr Ballal highlighted that terrorism was a 'global problem' and was not restricted to India alone. He lamented the use of modern technology and science for terrorism activities and encouraged the youth and student community to look at the brighter side by being responsible citizens. Accepting that curbing terrorism is the biggest challenge in the world today, he gave example of 'Neighbour watch' activity followed in the west and told the youngsters that being alert and vigilant at all times could perhaps help in warding off major tragedies at times. Dr Ballal also administered the oath to fight against terrorism to all gathered.

The student 'Anti-Terror' rallies are being organized by the state government across all districts in Karnataka and were announced on 12 January, birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

Manipal Estate Officer Jay Vithal told Daijiworld that more than 20,000 students and teachers took part from 53 educational institutions other than the 20 colleges of Manipal University. The students in the rally were quite excited not just about the rally but also the hype created about Valentine's Day this year. Threats apart, red roses were sold like they are sold every year and few students could be seen wearing small red and pink hearts pinned up on their shirts to mark the day.

How relevant it would have been had these thousands pledged to fight the tangible terrorism by the senes in India rather than this shadow boxing against terrorism in general.

This show is a blunder organized by BJP. Terrorism is by product of hatred, due to Religion,Race and Political agenda. I am dumb founded to find out how yelling and screeming 20,000 students can stop terrorism. Where was Mr.HS Ballal when Babri Majid was knocked down by Terrorists. Where were the Professors, then to gather students to protest terrorism in the name of Religion.

How in the world these female students will stand up to Terrorism, when they could not stand up to Rama Sena and Bajrang Dal Harassment. This is a real Road Side Theater Show of Sadananda Gowda. Looking at the photos published, students where dosing and yawning while speakers were giving the BS.

We better make it "Dwesha Alisi, Desha Ulisi". Dwesha is a root cause. We Indians can live happily together regardless of our Religon, but Politics will tear us away. In the coming elections we vote those who respect Human lives and not the otherway around.

This looks like the inaugration of Political campaign by Mr. Gowda, hailing from Puttur, knowing Manglaore is a risky consitutency today, has opted Udupi, because BJP has a better chance, AGAIN if BJP wins in udupi, the credit will go to the grass root workers, like some of the MLA's, and muncipal councellors who had done some good work and this Gowda lands in a Parachute to snatch the cake which was baked by some one else what kind of politics is this, what the hell is he doing with eminent personalites in the podium, he looks like a very odd man, he himself must have felt the shame

Are students involved in terrorism to make awareness among them? Government should make aware of themselves that they are wasting tax payer’s money rather than utilizing funds for developmental works. See only Vivekananda Photo. No M.K. Gandhi, No Zakir hussain, Radhakrishnan or K. R. Narayanan Photo’s which shows biased and communal.

Secondly, Chief Minister and his party are wasting time and funds in these kinds of unnecessary issues and not bothered about development of Karnataka. He has written a letter to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav only three days before presentation of the budget in the Lock Sabah describing the requirement of railway projects for the State whereas the budget procedures are starting two months earlier.

They are not interested in development of Karnataka rather exclusively interested in keeping safe the petals of kamala going rotten. Wealth hastily gotten will not last long simultaneously unplanned work will collapse within a short period. Example unplanned Mangalore roads work a display to public before Lock Sabah elections.

I wish total success of this program as it's much needed to educate our youth about terrorism. Only youth can eradicate this menace. Those who gave this idea of creating awareness in youth should be suitably rewarded. Good initiative by state. I am proud of our state which is the first one to organise in india such an important, precious program.

It is a great beginning that 20000 people, and most of them young people have joined in one spirit to stand against terrorism. "The love of liberty is the love of others the love of power is the love of ourselves". Willaim Hazlitt: The Rotarian said. If we don't fight for our freedom, the evil forces will snatch that fundamental right from all of us. us.

When BJP arranges programmes like this, I like BJP very much but they should keep aside trouble mongers like Baj Rang Dal. BJP a nice patriotic party which can give us good governance, nothing wrong in teaching the students about nationalism & guiding about terrorism. Nice program by the state govt., should be conducted all over the country to fill patriotism in people. Congress just frustated & creating troubles, sure they will not gain nothing by opposing this good program.

Students you shouldn’t have called BJP leaders beaten and molested women in their state of ruling..... No such incident has occurred since we won that freedom in 1947 what shame it is now 2009 and it is going on. Students you must fight justice to those who suffered physical and mental torture in Mangalore.

Its a very good objective, drive out terrorism & people who instigate terrorism. We know we have invisible ISI driving terrorism to destabilize India. It is a difficult fight, but peoples resolve to fight can drive the fanatics out. BUT WHEN WE START FIGHTING THE KNOWN ENEMY? SUCH AS MUTHALIK, WHO HAS PROMISED BOMBS IN EVERY HOUSEWIFE'S HAND? At least a sincere start with the known enemies of state will certainly ensure better results against fight on terror.

How long they will fool, what does mean terrorism? Isn’t one who terrorizes the fellow human being then how come this govt. is so soft on it’s sang parivar who is root cause for all this? Dear Ravi – Do you seriously believe that such rallies will prevent any major terrorist attacks in India? Indian economists have pointed out that the main threat to India’s quick progress is regional fascism, religious fundamentalism, rampant corruption and lawlessness. If these issues are not tackled, we will self destruct. Student’s aspirations would be to get proper jobs when they pass out and live in a free peaceful civilized society in harmony. It is the politician’s responsibility both at the central and the state level to fight terrorism. They should improve our intelligence and security forces and provide them with world class equipment. I believe it is the politicians of all parties who should be educated on these issues not the students.

Nothing but a sheer waste of time, money and energy and it is highly unlikely that such rallies will prevent any terrorist activities. Instead of all this tamasha the State government should first concentrate on preventing the current anti-social activities which are going on in and around Mangalore and restore law and order.
