Mangalore, Apr 13: A new ad hoc managing committee headed by Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi has taken over the administration of Zeenat Baksh Masjid in Bunder and Idgah  Jumma Masjid. This was informed by Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi in a press conference held here on Sunday April 12.

The committee also has S M Rashid Haji as its treasurer and Mohammed Hanif Haji and Sayyed Ahmed Basha Tangal Haji as members. Kunhi explained that the ad hoc committee took over charge on April 4 as per the instructions of the state High Court, district deputy commissioner, District Election Officer and Wakf Board.

In a complaint filed with the state Wakf Board on October 15, 2008, president of DK District Sunni Muslim Action Committee had alleged that the then managing committee president G Abubakker, trustees Abdul Hakim, Mohammed Harris and N K Abubakker were involved with several irregularities. As the Board did not take proper cognizance of this complaint, he approached the state High Court. The High Court instructed the Wakf Board to investigate the complaint within two months. On January 21, 2009, the Board sought for explanations from the trustees on several issues, for which replies were sent on February 19. The Wakf Board however, expressed its dissatisfaction over the replies.  The Wakf Board thereafter, appointed the present ad-hoc committee for a term of six months, disregarding a protest registered against the move by the state committee of the Indian Muslim League.

As the deputy commissioner passed orders, taking the view that formation of the committee at a time when election was round the corner was not right, committee member Sayyed Ahmed Basha Tangal approached the High Court through a writ petition, considering which the High Court cancelled the order of the deputy commissioner, Abdulla Kunhi explained.

He said, G Abubakker, president of the now-defunct managing committee, entered the mosque office illegally on April 4, took away the receipts book, prepared and signed two receipts, without having any authority to do so.

Treasurer S M Rashid Haji, committee members Mohammed Hanif Haji and Sayyed Ahmed Basha Tangal were present at the press conference.
