Udupi: Congress Strongly Rebuts Sabhapathy's Claims

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Apr 14: The district Congress Committee chose to condemn the statement issued by U R Sabhapathy, who deserted the Congress Party recently, in strong words. The reaction of the party succinctly, is as follows:

After taking part in the electioneering during election time, Sabhapathy never got involved with the party's organizational activities. He used to appear at some of the party meetings. His claim that he had built the party in the district is far away from truth. Everyone knows that Oscar Fernandes built the party by uniting the grass-root level workers of the party. Sabhapathy, who was defeated in the assembly election in1989 from the Congress, fought against Oscar Fernandes in the 1991 Lok Sabha election from the Janatadal and tasted defeat. He is wrong in objecting the re-admission of Manorama Madhwaraj into the Congress. The political plotting, in which Sabhapathy indulges in, has become his undoing now.

Sabhapathy himself asked Gafoor to continue as the district president of the Congress when Gopal Bhandary, who was supported by several senior leaders, refused to accept the post as he was to contest the election. Sabhapathy, who got all the benefits by being in the Congress, is now complaining against the Congress, giving rise to anger among the Congress workers. The district Congress had made efforts to retain him in the Congress, the district Congress Committee said in a release.

Very sad. For the instant benefit one will forsake and desert his own folks. This shows the true character of individual. If not mistaken, of my own experience one’s character is built, molded and inculcated in one's family. What Mr. Sabapathy has shown is own character. Where is the guarantee he will be trusted in his new house by its members.
