Mysore, Apr 14: Former Minister V Somanna claimed here yesterday that he had joined the BJP to perform a sacred duty, after feeling suffocated in the Congress party.

Speaking at a function organised at Nataraj Kalyana Mantap in the city yesterday, in which many of his followers and fans joined the party, Somanna said that the Congress would not retain good persons. It discourages those who move ahead with enthusiasm. He did not join the BJP out of his love for the party, but instead circumstances forced him to do so, he said reiterating that he would stay on in the BJP.

Somanna said that service to public will be acknowledged by everyone. "We will be destroyed if we do politics for livelihood, but instead will grow if we indulge ourselves in service of the people," he added.

He earned recognition everywhere for his selfless service and he recalled the manner in which he grew up in politics. He had seen people adding fuel to fire in politics, he said and added that he met M. Mahadevu and his services would be available to the BJP.

As the BJP was bringing in revolutionary changes in the State, he said he will strive for the BJP to secure maximum number of seats in the Lok Sabha polls under the leadership of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

The BJP MPs of the State should bring funds to the State as the TN and AP MPs do. The State should become a model State in the next four years and the MPs should render selfless service to the people, he said.

He appealed to the people of the State to vote for the BJP in order to make L.K. Advani the Prime Minister for unity and integrity of the nation.

BJP candidate C.H. Vijayashankar, who spoke earlier said that the BJP will grow in the next four years and retain power even in the next Assembly elections.

V. Somanna Fans Association State President Alanahalli Puttaswamy along with Varuna Mahesh, Alanahalli Murthy and others joined BJP on the occasion.

Chamarajanagar BJP candidate A.R. Krishnamurthy, MLC Thontadarya, BJP District President Ramakrishnappa, CADA Chairman C. Ramesh, leaders L. Revanna Siddaiah, Rajesh, Rajiv and APMC President C.N. Manjegowda were present.
