Mangalore: Poojary Opposes Netravati Diversion Project

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Apr 16: Congress candidate from local Lok Sabha seat B Janardhan Poojay said he is opposed to Netravati diversion project. He was speaking to the media during his electioneering at the fishing harbour here on Tuesday April 14.

Poojary feared, that the diversion of the river would aggravate drinking water situation in the city, which is expected to grow tremendously, as many industries are set to be installed here. He felt, the river diversion will not be good for the district.

He also added, his immediate step if elected, would be restore peace in the district, before taking up developmental programmes. "Peace is necessary to achieve development," he explained.  He thought, shouting of slogans by the BJP workers at Polali temple during the Chief Minister's visit there, was a case of violation of election code of conduct.
