Karkala: Development will be My Sole Mantra after Winning - JP Hegde

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Apr 18: "If I get elected as a member of parliament, I will neither take part in Dharnas or waste time in unnecessary fighting. Instead, I will concentrate on getting additional development grants for my constituency in addition to normal grants," promised Congress candidate for Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency Jayaprakash Hegde.

Addressing a public meeting held at Mala village in the taluk on Friday April 17, he said he will continue to meet the people of the constituency even after the election and honestly try for the development of the constituency.

Hegde pointed out that the state BJP, which came to power by promising to give 24-hours power to people and free power to the farmers, has failed even to maintain minimum hours of power supply in the state. "The government has reduced the quantity of rice per ration card from the earlier 28 kgs to four kgs. The state government is busy with issuing statements, without doing anything in practice," he said.

After Manmohan Singh became the Prime Minister (PM) of the country, the country has been able to command more respect internationally than ever before. If the Congress rises to power again, Singh will be the automatic choice for the post of the PM, as already announced by party national president Sonia Gandhi. The party workers should explain the achievements of the central government to the people and ensure win for the Congress Party, he urged.

MLA H Gopal Bhandary, M A Gafoor, Muniraj Ballal and several other leaders were present.
