Udupi, Apr 18: The district-level dalit conference will be organized at Pre-University College stadium of Udupi on Monday April 20 at 4 pm.

The event is being organized by Dalit Sangharsh Samiti.

Manjunath Giliyar, convener said that some people claim themselves to be dalit leaders and conveners of district, making tall claims, but try to eradicate the dalit movement. The association is organizing this conference for the specific purpose of creating awareness among the community members about such leaders, speaking at a press conference held here on Friday April 17.

Several of the dalit leaders are seen misusing the name of Dr Ambedkar. The association will introduce all the leaders and conveners of the Samiti to the people at the conference, he said.

Around 5,000 people are expected to participate in the conference. As part of the conference, a cultural procession will be led from Ajjarakad Townhall to the venue of the conference, prior to the conference, he revealed.

Mumbai police officer and encounter specialist Daya Nayak will inaugurate the conference, while Yaseen Malpe, Muslim Union president will inaugurate the procession.

Sundar Gujjarabettu, district general secretary will preside over the function.

Dr Vasudev Belle will address the gathering. Babu Rao Bannanje and T Gopalkrishna will be felicitated on the occasion.

Sundar Gujjarabettu, district general secretary, Sundar Master, Mysore division convener, Shyamraj Birti, district deputy general convener and Arun Kumar Brahmavar were present at the press conference.
