M'lore: Voters Must Demand Security from Candidates – Dr Shivanand

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SN/SP)

Mangalore, Apr 18: “The people should question the candidates seeking votes, about the measures they propose to take to ensure the safety and security of the citizens during various bundhs that are organized in connection with the communal clashes and for other reasons, advised Dr U P Shivanand, Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha independent candidate, speaking at a press conference here on Friday April 17.

He criticized numerous organizations which call for bundh and then express happiness about the success of bundhs later, which is then reported by various newspapers the next day.

“The people of the district rarely extend support for the bundhs voluntarily. But, the police department and government department officials never come to the rescue of the citizens who suffer untold miseries due to the bundhs. Tourists coming from different places on a visit to the city are made to face lot of trouble in the absence of proper transport and food facility. The voters must deeply think on this issue before casting the votes to the candidate of a person or party of their choice, he said.

The voters must get an assurance from their representatives that they would work to do away with conflicts among different groups. Apart from this, they must also collect the contact numbers of the candidates and their aides, to enable the general public to seek help in critical situations, he opined.

Purushottam and Muhammad were present at the press conference.

Very well said Dr. Shivanand. People who call for bundhs must be tried in the courts. Wish you all the best.
